Ped Pukare Titli Aa Re - Introduction
Continuing the successful project on “Flora & Fauna of Mumbai” conducted in the year 2011, OASIS, a registered NGO working for the cause of environment has launched “Ped Pukaare Titli Aa Re” as its 2012 project.
The welfare of Mumbaikars is tied up with preservation of our valuable environmental assets. Community participation is a must to protect our ecological treasures. Narrowing down on butterflies as the theme for this year, this project will involve college and school students in plantation of butterfly-attracting plants and trees on roads / society or school compound / and balconies or window sill of homes thereby providing a conducive atmosphere for different butterfly species to thrive.
The rationale being that concretisation and loss of natural habitats is causing the number of butterfly species in Mumbai to reduce. By encouraging the creation of butterfly gardens, the project hopes to motivate students to share their care and usher in colour into Mumbai.
To flag off this project, on 17 February 2012, 10 students of the Navinchandra Mehta Institute of Technology and Development conducted an orientation and training session for over 450 students of Michael High School and Marceline Junior College in the school’s premises in Kurla.
