BLUE MORMONS SWARM Vishnubua Kadam Udyan at KHAR, MUMBAI on World Environment day

 

School students and Residents of Khar echoed the fact that While our cities are growing, the environment is depleting. One of the victims of this growth and loss of greenery are the cities butterflies.

They were present to plant the first set of saplings at the Vishnu Kadam Garden on 5th June 2013, World Environment Day.as part of OASIS 2013 project "Bring Back Butterflies",

During the plantation,  Mr. Jagdish Vakale, project education officer and a naturalist, gave a small interesting speech about the butterflies. Mr. Asif Zakaria, the Municipal Councillor also appreciated the project.He was accompanied with Manini Desai a three year old and Soham Dhingra and Suyash Sharma in planting the first butterfly attracting sapling.Mr Rajendra Owalekar spoke about the butterfly garden that he maintains in Thane and Mr Makarand shared his expertise on the particular plants attracting the particular plants (Plains Cupid )....

The nectar-rich plants  lantanas, will attract butterflies, and will attract species like the Grass Jewel Butterfly and Blue Mormons specially , from among the 150 species found in Mumbai.
